Today marks day five of the Top Five Reasons why you ought to tune in daily to the Green Eagle Blog.

Reason #5: FREE stuff

winner-image

You should tune in every week to the Green Eagle Blog because you could win free stuff.  Every week we will have a drawing on Friday for a cool prize…and the only way you can win is if you leave a comment.  This week’s winner is:

Stephanie Williams

You can also win cool prizes by reading the blog every day to find out if I will be somewhere on campus waiting to give out a prize.  Once a week I will post where you can go and what you need to do to win a cool prize.

We will also send out ‘VIP’ invitations for cool campus events and if you attend you could win a prize.  It might be the first five people to show up, there could be an envelope under a chair…to find out how to win is by reading the blog.

Stephanie, I will get your prize to you on Monday.  YOU could be our next winner, just leave us a comment and tune in on Fridays to find out if you win.

Speaking of winning, I will be rooting for UNT as they head to Tuscaloosa to play Alabama tomorrow.  Here is another chance to win:  what do you think the final score will be for the football game tomorrow?  Let us know in the comment section and whomever is closest will win a cool UNT prize!

Follow the Red Carpet

Today marks day four of the Top Five Reasons why you ought to tune in daily to the Green Eagle Blog.

Reason #4:  VIP access to the coolest events on campus

red carpet

There are many events on campus, from fun social events to beneficial academic and personal development workshops.  As some of you have expressed in previous comments on the blog, you want to go to events and get involved but you don’t know how or where.

As a member of the Green Eagles you will get updates about cool campus events before anyone else.  You will also get the ‘VIP’ treatment by being invited to select campus events and programs.

Yesterday we talked about getting the most out of your college experience and one of the ways to do so is by attending events and programs.  We will personalize events to meet your needs and wants so you can get the most out of the event.

As a Green Eagle ‘VIP’ you will get invitations to exclusive campus programs, and as a ‘VIP’ we want to know what those programs should be about.  What topics are you most interested in?  Post your top three program topics in the comment section and you could win a cool prize (the drawing is tomorrow)!

Bang for Your Buck

Today marks day three of the Top Five Reasons why you ought to tune in daily to the Green Eagle Blog.

Reason #3: Would you pay for a gym membership and never go

work out

Last year I bought a gym membership because I wanted to lose a few pounds and get in shape.  I went to the gym a few times but then I stopped going.  A few months into my gym membership I was upset because I had not lost one pound.  I was paying for something that I was not using and then I wondered why I wasn’t getting the results I expected.

College is like that gym membership.  You decide to go to college because you want a college degree and you invest the money to do so.  Many of us expect to get good grades, have fun and get a degree but how can we get what we expect if we don’t put the work in.

In order to get the results you desire from college is to attend class, study and get involved.  Every month that I did not go to the gym I was losing $29.99.  Each class that you miss has a dollar amount attached to it, for every class you miss it is like paying $57 and not getting anything for it.

From your classes to the programs on campus to the resources available, you are paying for the college experience.  Get your money’s worth, go to the Learning Center to learn how to study more effectively, attend the event being hosted on campus and most of all, go to class.  Just by doing these things you are not only getting your moneys worth, but you will help achieve your desired results.

What are your desired results?  Is there a certain GPA goal you have, do you want to get involved on campus?  Tell us in the comment section and you will be entered into our weekly drawing happening this Friday.

Put Me in Coach

Today marks day two of the Top Five Reasons why you ought to tune in daily to the Green Eagle Blog.

Stephanie Williams, Mark McCall and Rachel Slovacek tuned in yesterday and should be on the look out for a special treat soon.

Green Eagle

Reason #2:  Cool Coaches who were once cool first time UNT students

Your coach is or has been a student here at UNT.  They struggled, they had fun and they found success.  Your coach was selected because they know what it is like to be new to UNT and they learned how to succeed in class and on campus.  While I have no doubt that your coach will be a valuable resource to you and will answer questions you have about classes, financial aid and student activities, you should know they are worth getting to know.

Jamila Hammami’s favorite movie is Night of the Living Dead and she also enjoys playing bass guitar.

Zayra Molina is a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies

Stephen Roberts, he is a TA for Antropology and he enjoys Kill Bill and going to concerts.

If you like sports then you should talk to Daniel Holobowicz.  He loves sports and played here at UNT.

Are you interested in Human Sexuality, the class here at UNT, well then you should talk to Katie Scarmondo because it has been her favorite class.

Grab some popcorn and watch SLC Punk with Lindsey Taflinger or you can stop by PEB 205 and say hi to her.

If you are a fan of Drew Barrymore then you should talk to Sarah Williams because her favorite movie is Never Been Kissed.

Jeff Buckner plays guitar and his favorite movie is Cool Hand Luke.

Now that I told you little more about some of our coaches, what would you like to know?  Ask the coaches a question and we will post their answers.  Also, your post today will get you in Friday’s raffle for a cool prize.

Reason #5: 99 Other Super Cool Students

I spent last Thursday and Friday meeting some of the students selected for the Green Eagles.  I really enjoyed getting to know everyone and learning where they came from, what they are majoring in and what they like to do for fun.  I met John Northey who is a Freshman Music major who plays Jazz trumpet.  I really liked talking with John because he hails from Washington, which is where I lived for 3 years before I moved here.

I also got the chance to meet Brittney Johnson, a transfer student.  Brittney is also musically inclined and loves to sing.  It is my goal to get Britteny and John together for an open mic night so she can sing while he plays trumpet.

I also heard what some of you think are the best and most challenging things about being at UNT.  The best thing about being at UNT, so far, seems to be meeting friendly people.  Your challenges seem to be things such as time management, increased work load and the long  walk between classes.

So what can we learn about the other 98 of you? What is your talent? Tell us in the comment section and get in the drawing for this week’s prize-given out here on our blog each Friday.

Golden Ticket

I got a golden ticket

Welcome to the Tube!

For the past week you saw signs around campus.   You might have heard your RA and other students talking about it…and finally you discover the magic of the tube.  It is more than just a green tube.   It is your ticket to free stuff, VIP invitations to select campus events, a connection with important resources on campus and so much more.

Starting this Monday, September 14 you should tune into this blog as we will spend the week discussing all the reasons you should read this blog and meet with your coach.  We will discuss everything from hot spots on campus, tips for student success, fun campus trivia, free things to do around Denton, and the insider’s scoop on how to work your way through campus.  Make this blog your own, by making comments.   I will do my part and end every blog with a question that you can respond to.

It has been exciting to meet some of you, like Stephanie Williams who is here from Illinois and Dan Lyche who is a huge Houston Texans fan.  I am looking forward to meeting all of you…

As this first entry comes to an end I am reminded of one of my favorite movies, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the original with Gene Wilder, although I was a fan of Johnny Depp’s performance in the remake).   Every kid wanted a golden ticket because it gave them access to something exclusive.  You did not have to find a tube instead the tube found you ….think of the tube as your golden ticket.

Speaking of Willy Wonka, what’s your favorite candy bar? tell us in the comment section and we will randomly draw 3 people to win their favorite candy.
